Natural spice and herb flavor extract provider Kalsec has announced that Scott Nykaza, M.D., has been promoted to CEO, along with several other executive team changes.

After joining the company in 1999, Nykaza became vice president of procurement in 2005 and then promoted to executive president of sales and marketing in 2010. In 2011, he was promoted to president and then to COO in 2013. Prior to working for Kalsec, he worked for the Dekalb Seed Company and Monsanto. He received a master’s degree in plant breeding from Kansas State University and a Ph.D. from Colorado State University.

In addition to Nykaza’s announcement, Kalsec has announced several other executive team changes and promotions. Don Berdahl, M.D., was promoted to executive vice president of research strategy and chief technical officer, where he will focus on building Kalsec’s research strategy through business acquisitions and new technology. Julie Heine was promoted to executive vice president of sales, after working for over 23 years with Kalsec. Last, Roger Nahas, M.D., has expanded his duties and responsibilities of his vice president of global research and development.

“These announcements are part of a long-term succession plan to ensure Kalsec remains private and sustainable for the next 100 years,” said George Todd, executive chairman of the board. “I am very proud of what our Kalsec team has accomplished during a time of significant change and challenges in our industry and across the world. Kalsec has a bright future and is well positioned for future investment and growth.”
