OSHA and NJDOH surveys

The Flavor Extract Manufacturers Association (FEMA) has announced that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is resuming its national survey of flavor manufacturers. OSHA had delayed the survey, first begun in July. The survey is intended to help OSHA determine the scope of the flavor industry in the United States, and the degree to which diacetyl is used in the manufacture of flavors. The survey is being conducted by telephone by an OSHA contractor, Eastern Research Group.

In other news, the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services (NJDOH) sent a survey to flavor manufacturers in New Jersey at the end of July.  NJDOH has received a number of responses to the survey and they plan to meet with FEMA representatives soon to discuss respiratory health and safety issues.
