UEBT Certifies Symrise Amazon

The Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT) has certified Symrise Amazon's ethical sourcing of 19 natural cosmetic, flavor and fragrance ingredients from 14 farming communities. In 2015, Symrise opened the Amazon Ecoparque in Belém in the Brazilian state of Pará. Some of the ingredients include andiroba oil, passion fruit oil, cupuaçu butter and açai berry puree.

UEBT certification indicates the implementation of ethical biotrade practices along the supply chain, promoting biodiversity conservation throughout raw material sourcing and ensuring that local farming communities benefit from fair prices and local projects.

Eder Ramos, global president cosmetic ingredients, Symrise, said, "UEBT certification is an important step in our plan to make the treasure trove of ingredients from the Amazon region available to consumers around the world. It underscores our voluntary commitment to ethical standards in the extraction of natural raw materials from biological resources. We established these standards in our biodiversity agenda."
