Insight by Symrise has announced the three biggest Asian food trends in North America.

1. Home Cooking

Consumers are looking to try new foods and explore new flavors, at home. They are looking for foods that are either healthy alternatives, restaurant quality and/or have an umami taste. 

Key products include:

  • seasoning packets

  • high quality ramen/soup bowls

  • plant-based meats

2. Snacks

Asian snacks, both food and drinks, have become popular in North America. Consumers have been enjoying sweet treats and desserts that have originated in Asia.

Key products and ingredients include:

  • boba tea/milk tea

  • mochi

  • waffle taiyaki

  • honey

  • yuzu

3. Health Drinks

Consumers are interested in remaining health conscious but still want to enjoy fun drinks. Asian flavors in teas are gaining interest. 

Key products and ingredients include:

  • black tea

  • fruit tea

  • smoothies

  • citrus

  • ginger

  • honey

The report also mentions the increased interest in energy drinks, with flavors such as sparking cold brew coffee with citrus or sticky rice and dark chocolate cereal drinks.
