Golden flower: Jamboe of Indonesia

Indesso Lead Image R

In the land located pretty captive, about 30 mins from the city’s main road, lies a field of yellow speckles. This area is where Indesso and our partner farmers cultivate a very delicate kind of gold. The locals call it “Bunga Mas,”or Golden Flower, reflecting not only its bright yellow colour, but also what a treasure the plant is.

Commercially, the flowering plant is more well known as Jamboe, Jambu, Acmella, or Electric daisy, describing its coming from the Asteraceae family or common daisy, and also the fascinating “electric” tingling or numbing sensation that this flowering plant gives when in contact in skin. In Indonesia, this golden flower has been long used as traditional remedy for toothache, gum problems, and other oral issues. The Jambu flowers are boiled, and the water is used as mouthwash to ease any pain. The record of the plant itself has been found in Java dated as early as 1920, proven the native use of the herb.

The main active component of the plant superpower is Spilanthol, a bioactive alkylamide. Published studies have shown that spilanthol has several biological and pharmacological effects, including anaesthetic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and also saliva-inducing properties. Especially with cosmetic application, studies has shown its benefit for anti-aging formulations. These properties are beneficial for many applications including oral care compositions, personal care, cosmetic, and food & flavouring products.

Indesso Graphic Element RThe potential of this plant extract is limitless, and with our commitment, we thrive to ensure a sustainable ecosystem that works best for our farmers and land, while sharing the benefit of this Indonesian treasure to the world.
