The updated terminology will be effective immediately.
The Council of British Society of Perfumers (BSP) has announced the decision to stop using “oriental” as a fragrance descriptor with immediate effect, urging members to do the same.

According to a BSP press release, the decision was taken because the term is perceived as Eurocentric, and as such, is both outdated and derogatory.
"We have been advised that other societies are adopting the term “Amber/Ambery” to replace *riental. We do not wish to prescribe what terms should be used as replacements as long as the replacement is made."
