REACH Compliance Tools

By mid-April 2008 the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) will post online a software tool that will allow chemical companies to transform information about their chemicals from one computer format to a different format, which will make it easier to pre-register under REACH.

Identifying the specific chemical that must be pre-registered can be a big challenge when a chemical has multiple Chemical Abstract Service (CAS) numbers, has a CAS number that differs from the number it was given on the European Inventory of Existing Commercial Substances (EINECS) database and when the chemical comes from an unknown, variable or biological source.

The REACH compliance aids that CEFIC is developing include guidance on identifying chemicals, templates that companies can use to develop exposure estimates and guidance on how to use information from existing data sources such as the US High Production Volume (HPV) Challenge Program.
