We've made it through the first month of the year! As always, we checked our Google Analytics to find out which articles our readers loved most last month. Here are the top five fragrance articles from January 2026.

1. Bath & Body Works Reveals Most Loved Fragrances of 2025

Bath & Body Works published its lists of most loved fragrances among its consumers for 2025 in the lotion, fragrance mist, candle and soap categories. The top picks included new additions to the brand’s portfolio as well as returning favorites.

The brand’s press release notes that Champagne Toast continues to be a bestseller across multiple categories. Introduced in 2018, the collaboration scent with IFF vice president perfumer Patty Hidalgo, includes notes of champagne, sparkling berries and juicy tangerine.

“The creative vision was to bottle pure celebration, a fragrance that sparkles with joy every day,” Hidalgo explained. “Effervescent champagne sets the stage, paired with the playful elegance of a kir royale. The result? A scent that feels like a toast to life’s most beautiful moments.”

2. Bath & Body Works Reveals New Spring Collections

Personal care and home fragrance brand Bath & Body Works announced its latest spring fragrance launches. The brand will launch three new collections, new adaptive fragrance inspired by musk and new scents to the existing Everyday Luxuries collection.

“Inspired by the season’s fleeting moments, the assortment introduces both beloved classics and new trend-driven fragrances,” the brand said in its press release. “Designed to awaken the senses and brighten everyday rituals, these products capture the joy, optimism and transformation that defines spring.”

The large spring launch comes after the company lowered its Q4 sales and full-year guidance last year and announced a new strategic plan to revitalize the brand. The first pillar of the plan includes creative disruptive and innovative products, as demonstrated by the new spring collections.

3. Beyond the Amygdala: Decoding the Four Mechanisms of Functional Scent

There is no sense more peculiar and more fascinating than the sense of smell. We are already deeply familiar with its connection to emotion, yet few of us consider the neural and physiological architectures that create this link and how these very features could be employed in the question of functional and emotion/mood-modulating fragrances.

In this article, Alina Rosu, perfumer and founder at NEUNÉRE, shows the complexity and the different ways a scent can influence how we feel and act. I will start by explaining arguably the most popularized mechanism, the emotional loop. But we also need to consider the trigeminal effects, the bioavailability, and finally, the psychological effects of expectation.

4. How Neuroscience Research is Driving the Functional Fragrance Movement

Scent is inherently personal; it has the power to shift mood, elicit memories and boost self-esteem. So why not craft fragrance formulations that take advantage of these neuroscientific links?

“Wellbeing has become one of the strongest drivers of innovation in fragrance and beauty,” said Loïc Bleuez, director of innovations for consumer goods and fine fragrances at MANE. “Once limited to ‘feel-good’ personal care rituals, it has expanded into the home, where consumers seek comforting, multi-sensory environments.”

Perfumer & Flavorist+ reached out to three companies that have developed new fragrance technology informed by neuroscience research. These industry experts explained how neuroscience knowledge can be a competitive advantage in fragrance to create innovative, functional and good-smelling formulations.
