Dear Readers of the Flavor Report US Edition,
After 46 years of working, of which 31 were in the flavor industry, I have decidedLipka presented alongside William van Dongen at Flavorcon 2022 in Cincinnati, Ohio.Courtesy of Allured Business Media
What does this mean for me? Well, certainly lots of feelings. I will have time to spend with my granddaughter who is 8. We will share the summer off and will be able to do lots of fun things. My oldest daughter is off on Wednesdays, so I will get to see her more often as well. My list of places I’d love to travel to and visit will grow ever smaller. It is only by seeing different places and people from all over do you allow yourself to grow and see things in different perspectives that perhaps you had not considered. Everywhere I go, I think to myself, “Would I like living here?” I will be able to get back into watercolor painting. I also figure I will do volunteer work. And let’s not forget getting together with my already retired friends!
What does this mean for you? Well, as you might guess, I am leaving as the panel moderator. I will honestly miss doing these panels, screening raw materials, researching them, evaluating them and then writing about them in an interesting way and trying to weave them into cohesive yet creative thoughts. My personal creative process has always been centered on the raw materials, using these gems in new flavor creations. My advice to you is this: you have access to so many more materials now more than ever. FEMA has given us that. Use the tools. Create beautiful and lovely, authentic and dimensional flavors.
It has been an absolute joy for me to share what I know with you all. And a joy to explore and learn with you all. This I will miss greatly. Look me up on LinkedIn if you are of a mind to.
With tremendous affection,
Cyndie Lipka

Editor’s Note: Cyndie invited me to a tasting panel during my second week on this job so I could see how the process is done. I learned so much from that one session, and it helped give me so much insight into what direction I might take the content. I am so grateful to Cyndie and all of her work for the US-based Flavor Reports column. I wish her the absolute best in her retirement!
Beginning in 2026, chief flavor chemist Bill Aslanides will take over as moderator of the US Flavor Reports column.
