Awards given at the Art and Olfaction Awards

On April 21, 2018, at the Tabernacle in London, England, the Art and Olfaction Awards celebrated the work of experimental and artisan perfumers during its annual event.

Established in 2014 by The Institute for Art and Olfaction, the award is given to four perfumes, one experiment scent project and two special categories (The Aftel Award for Handmade Perfume and The Contribution to Scent Culture Award). The goal of the event is to raise public interest and awareness around the development of independent perfumery.

The winners for this year include:

  • Chienoir by BedeauX in the artisan category.
  • Club Design by The Zoo in the artisan category.
  • Eau de Virginie by Au Pays de la Fleur d'Orangre in the independent category.
  • Nuit de Bakélite by Naomi Goodsir in the independent category.
  • Under the Horizon by Oswaldo Maciá won the Sadakichi Award for experimental scent project.

Additionally, the Contribution to Scent Culture Award was presented to olfactory art practitioner Peter de Cupere, and Michaud of Monsillage received The Aftel Award for Handmade Perfume.

“There is a punk rock [vibe to] perfumery—people who just say ... I’m going to make perfume. And that’s what these awards are about,” said Isabelle Michaud of Monsillage upon receiving her award.
