The code sets out the actions that the food industry can voluntarily commit to undertake to improve and communicate sustainability performance. It will contribute to the creation of a sustainable food system across the European Union as part of the European Green Deal and contains a monitoring and evaluation framework to measure progress.

In addition to signing the code, Kerry has set additional commitments:

  • Reaching more than two billion people by 2030 with sustainable nutrition solutions.

  • Adopting a science-based target for a 33% reduction in absolute emissions by 2030 and achieving net-zero before 2050.

  • Committing to a 50% reduction of food waste by 2030 in Kerry Group operations.

Malcolm Sheil, chief commercial officer at Kerry, said, “The food industry plays an important role in tackling global challenges, such as malnutrition and food waste. Kerry has a vision to create a world of sustainable nutrition and reaching over two billion people by 2030, with our commitments clearly outlined in our Beyond the Horizon strategy. In line with science-based targets, we will use 100% renewable electricity in all our operations by 2025, achieve a 33% absolute reduction in carbon emissions in our operations and a 30% carbon intensity reduction in our supply chains and net-zero before 2050."

Sheil added, “We are proud to sign the EU Code of Conduct with our peers in the industry, which will help create a more sustainable food chain across Europe. We are looking forward to collaborating with our fellow signatories to bring our shared vision to life.”
