Givaudan and Amyris

Amyris and Givaudan will collaborate in the research, development and production areas of active cosmetic ingredients. The companies believe that future product releases will demonstrate significant performance, cost and sustainability advantages.

Over the last two years, Givaudan’s position in the active ingredient market has grown with the acquisitions of cosmetics firm, Soliance in June 2014 and Induchem Holding AG in August 2015. Last year, Amyris developed a commercially scalable fragrance molecule using yeast fermentation and has produced molecules for several companies, including Takasago, Firmenich and IFF.

Maurizio Volpi, president of Givaudan’s fragrance division, said, “This partnership demonstrates three concrete steps fully in line with our 2020 strategy: First, open innovation, by leveraging external partnerships; second, sustainability, by looking at different ways to source raw materials; and third, active beauty, a growing area of investment for Givaudan.”

Over the multi-year agreement, Amyris will use its engineering platform to design cosmetic active targets and scale them at its manufacturing facility. Givaudan will then take over to exclusively commercialize the product.
