Fragrance capsules in liquid crystal surfactant phases
U.S. Patent Application 20150291910
Publication date: Oct. 15, 2015
Assignee: International Flavors & Fragrances Inc.

According to this patent application, using encapsulated fragrances in personal care rinse-off compositions, i.e., body wash, conditioner, shampoo, etc., poses a challenge in that the capsules are difficult to deposit on skin and hair due to strong interactions with surfactants in the products. Previous work has shown that polymers can be added to the capsules and products to enhance deposition. However, the extent of deposition enhancement still is affected by the presence of surfactants.

As as result, the present invention relates to fragrance-containing capsule compositions dispersed in lyotropic liquid crystalline surfactant phases, as well as a consumer products containing them. The inventors have found that the performance of fragrance delivered in this manner is significantly enhanced, versus dispersing the capsules on their own.
