Flavor and fragrance leader Givaudan announced the launch of Labdanum Absolute SIGNature, a new natural ingredient developed at the company’s House of Naturals in Grasse. This new ingredient can be applied to personal care and fine fragrance creations.
Labdanum Absolute SIGNature is extracted from the cistus plant found in the Andalusia region of Spain. It has a dry, lingering amber scent with woody and mineral nuances. Further, the ingredient was developed using precision engineering to produce a distinctive olfactory signature.
“Our innovation team has leveraged advanced engineering processes to elevate the crude cistus extract into a highly refined labdanum absolute,” said Paul-Erwan Cayenne, head of Givaudan’s Fragrance Ingredients Business. “This breakthrough exemplifies our strategic focus on delivering high-performance raw materials that drive value for our customers and demonstrates our commitment to pushing boundaries of the natural ingredients industry.”
According to the company’s press release, the cistus plants are hand-harvested at a factory near Seville, upholding a regional tradition. Givaudan believes that following Andalusia’s cultural heritage will help reflect “a strong commitment to environmental stewardship.”
