The Composition of Blackcurrant Absolute (Ribes Nigrum)

In our study we employed three different products, an absolute obtained in the laboratory from buds grown in Burgundy of the “Noir Bourgogne” varietv; another laboratory produced absolute from buds collected in Kent, England, from the local variety “Baldwin”; and an industrial produced absolute from buds from various regions of France and elsewhere.

Contribution to the study of the chemical composition of the essential oil from the terminal branches of the cypress tree in the Grasse area

In a previous study of the chemical composition of the essential oil derived from the Algerian cypress, we compared the oil with oil obtained by steam distillation of the terminal branches of cypress trees from the Grasse area. We then noted some differences that affected the relative proportions of certain constituents. The richness in high constituents, in particular, prompted us to begin the study of this higher fraction. Cypress essential oil possesses a dry-down odor which is both woody and amberlike and is greatly appreciated by perfumers; this also makes it worth studying.

Historical and recent developments of essential oils and aroma chemicals

Our industry is unique because it is concerned with agriculture, chemistry, physiology, bacteriology and other sciences. No other industry, chemical or otherwise, produces such a diversified and great number of individual materials. It is also understandable that these operations require the application of various chemical reactions and analytical procedures. The future of the essential oil-aroma chemical industry can be predicted in two words: Continuous Progress.

Progress in Essential Oils: Long Pepper Oil

The present article is a survey of literature evaluating the constituents of Piper longum L., or long pepper, fruit oil. In one case, early researchers found the oil was devoid of monoterpene compounds and rich in sesquiterpenes, with b-caryophyllene being the major hydrocarbon. Lawrence (1978) and others also examined the composition of P. longum, the findings from which are discussed here.
