Emerald Kalama Chemical Expands Capacity of Aroma Chemical Line

Emerald Kalama Chemical, a business group of Emerald Performance Materials, has announced the completion of a capacity expansion for Kalama hexyl cinnamic aldehyde (HCA) and related linear aldehydes, key products in the company’s aroma chemical product line.

The multi-million dollar investment was implemented to meet market demand as well as provide a platform for future growth. This is the company’s fourth expansion of its aroma chemical business, effectively increasing capacity by 50% since the formation of the company in 2006.

The latest expansion augmented Emerald’s Kalama, Wash. facility, where the company’s full portfolio of flavor and fragrance ingredients are manufactured. This upgrade will enable dual-continuous production of the company’s two HCA products, stabilized with either TBHQ or BHT, to meet the changing needs of the marketplace. The 2013 expansion and upgrade includes: new tankage, continued improvements in health, safety and environment, and enhancements to the railcar handling systems.

Emerald Kalama Chemical is a global producer of flavor and fragrance ingredients such as HCA, amyl cinnamic aldehyde, cinnamic aldehyde, cinnamic alcohol, linear aldehydes, benzyl alcohol and benzaldehyde. It also produces sodium and potassium benzoate, benzoic acid and intermediates and K-Flex plasticizers, which the company sells globally through its distribution partners.
