Luxury fragrance house Initio Parfums Privés has announced a landmark three-year scientific partnership with Versailles Hospital and Université Paris Cité to address anosmia, a global health issue affecting millions. The collaboration centers on the SMOTT project (single molecule olfactory testing and training), an ambitious research program led by ENT physician and olfactory expert Hakim Benkhatar, MD.
The initiative aims to move beyond standard fragrance artistry to "reinvent" the diagnostic and recovery landscape for smell disorders. By deconstructing olfactory training through a precise scientific lens, the SMOTT project is working to develop a new clinical prototype designed to improve smell evaluation and patient recovery. This strategic investment positions Initio at the intersection of fundamental research and clinical application, focusing on the psychological and social impacts of sensory loss.
"Fragrance has the power to access a more instinctive, more intimate dimension of perception," the brand stated in its announcement, emphasizing that the project is a commitment to reclaiming a vital part of the human experience. Through this partnership, Initio seeks to bridge the gap between luxury scent creation and medical innovation, fostering tools that healthcare professionals can use to restore a sense of vibrancy to those living with sensory impairment.
