Home fragrance brand Pura announced the launch of Madame X, the latest addition to their exclusive collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The fragrance is inspired by John Singer Sargent’s 1883-84 oil painting.
“More than 140 years after Madame X made its debut in Paris, the enigmatic portrait remains compelling,” said Stephanie Hedrick, Alice Pratt Brown Curator of American Painting and Drawing at The Met. “the sitter’s mysterious beauty and bold self-fashioning were considered scandalous at the time but today she’s a chic and enduring icon of The Met collection.”
Pura’s Madame X fragrance was created in partnership with Givaudan perfumer Olivia Jan. In the brand’s press release, Jan said that she wanted to embody the “dramatic contrast” of the painting through its fragrance notes.
Madame X is available for purchase at Pura’s website for $23.99.
