Firmenich has announced the acquisition of South African flavor company Flavourmore, in an effort to accelerate growth in the region.

“The Sub-Saharan Africa region, with its population of 800 million, represents a strategic growth market for Firmenich,” said Patrick Firmenich, chairman of the board, Firmenich. “As Firmenich has been operating in South Africa for 30 years, this acquisition is a natural extension of our commitment to building long-lasting customer partnerships in the region.”

Started in 1998, the South African company has been a provider of sweet and savory flavor solutions. This adds to Firmenich’s strategic commitment to grow in Sub-Saharan Africa, along with a recently launched flavor facility in Lagos, Nigeria.

“Building on Flavourome’s established business in South Africa, I am delighted to be expanding Firmenich’s capabilities in this strategic region,” said Gilbert Ghostine, CEO, Firmenich. “This milestone confirms our commitment to shape winning solutions for our customers in South Africa and beyond.”

UPDATE: On February 5, 2018, Firmenich confirmed the successful completion of the acquisition. “We are pleased to formally welcome the Flavourome team into the Firmenich Group,” said Patrick Firmenich. “Building on over 30 years of business presence in South Africa, today’s acquisition firmly anchors our vision to grow in this key region.”
