Flavor company Esarom announced pineapple as its 2026 flavor of the year. Company officials describe pineapple as a flavor “that radiates sunshine, optimism and tropical brightness.”

According to data from Mintel, nearly 500 new beverage launches in 2025 with a pineapple flavor, with the United States, China and Australia as the largest drivers. Further, in the last five years, 56% of product launches with a pineapple flavor have been beverages, followed by confectionery at 36% and ice cream at 8%.

Esarom’s Punky Pineapple flavor can be used in a variety of applications, according to the company. It reflects the broad range of pineapple flavor notes, including classic, juicy, piña colada and grilled.

“It bursts with bold tropical energy, combining the juicy flavor of pineapple with a rebellious twist of brightness and acidity,” said Isolde Tomann, senior flavorist at Esarom.

The company’s press release also lists suggested flavor pairing options with pineapple. These include coconut, mango, ginger, vanilla and chili. Company officials and flavorists believe that combining pineapple with these flavors will build on consumer trends of tropical flavors and flavors associated with wellbeing.

“Recent consumer insights reveal a collective desire for flavors that elevate the mood, connect to nature and offer a clean, refreshing taste,” the company stated in its press release. “This trend reflects a broader move towards positivity, health and emotional wellbeing. In this atmosphere, pineapple shines as the perfect choice. Its juicy, sunny character mirrors freshness, clarity and balance — creating a moment of escape and revitalization with every sip or bite.”
