Self-care remains strong in consumer trends post-COVID across the flavor and fragrance segments. Consumers are looking for products that can tap into their physical, mental and spiritual well-being. For instance, Gen Z are heavy fragrance users, focused on the mind-scent connection. Mood is central to motivating purchases, Circanaa reported that 80% of fragrance users say that scent is critical for enhancing or lifting their moods. With that in mind, F&F houses are investing in the research and development of functional ingredients (more on page 32).
A highly contested topic for creators is the use of artificial intelligence (AI) during the formulation of both flavor and fragrance. I connected with Mane VP perfumer Vincent Kuczinski for his take on utilizing AI as a tool in fine fragrance formulation as well as his advice for fellow seasoned World Perfumery Congress (WPC) attendees and newbies alike to maximize their experience at the upcoming event (listen in the digital edition on page 39).
