Artificial intelligence (AI) continues to be on the tip of everyone's tongue. Whether it is a perfumer, consumer, or professional tied to the fragrance creation process, we're seeing AI utilized in various ways in fragrance including researching consumer wants/demands as well as trends, substitutes for materials, marketing key terms to project a fragrance's success and more. In a recent report by Exploding Topics, AI perfume is topping search trends in September 2024.
Exploding Topics defines AI perfume as "any fragrance created using artificial intelligence technology, specifically, AI algorithms analyze vast amounts of data on fragrance compositions, customer preferences, and market trends to generate unique scent combinations."
Within the report, the platform referenced startup EveryHuman which is said to provide a service called “algorithmic perfumery," in which EveryHuman’s AI analyzes users' answers and creates a personalized perfume based on that data. Exploding Topics also referenced Google’s Cloud's efforts to “digitize smell” to analyze massive amounts of data to help identify currently unknown scents.
In terms of projecting the trend of AI perfume, Exploding Topics reports that the search volume for “sensory AI” has grown by 380% over the past 24 months. The platform describes sensory AI as "AI systems that can learn through several sensory inputs: smell, hearing, vision, etc." The example provided is of Meta's ImageBind AI model, said to learn from six types of sensory data with an aim to generate multisensory content.
