Professor Fu has made important strides with his research into the development of new synthetic methods based on his original design of catalysts and reactions.

According to the award announcement, Fu "designed planar-chiral nucleophilic catalysts by fusing DMAP to ferrocene for a variety of asymmetric reactions as represented by acylative kinetic resolution."

The annual award, sponsored by Takasago, recognizes "outstanding contributions to research in asymmetric synthetic chemistry defined in its broadest sense without regard to age or nationality."

Recipients of the honor are given a certificate, a medallion, and $10,000 for their accomplishments. Each year, the prize is bestowed upon a different recipient who meets a stringent set of criteria. The winner will also deliver a lecture at the annual general meeting of SSOCJ, where they will receive their honor.
