FlavorSum is expanding its beverage capabilities with the acquisition of Beverage Flavors International (BFI), a Chicago-based supplier of proprietary beverage flavor bases and sweetener solutions serving bottlers in more than 30 countries.

The deal strengthens FlavorSum’s position in beverage systems by adding BFI’s expertise in turnkey flavor bases for carbonated soft drinks and still fruit beverages, as well as its international bottling support capabilities. BFI’s operations will remain in Chicago, and the existing team will continue supporting customers following the transaction.

“BFI’s focus on delivering turn-key solutions for beverage companies looking for high-quality, consistent products and development expertise aligns well with FlavorSum’s mission to streamline flavor sourcing,” said FlavorSum CEO Brian Briggs. “This acquisition continues our strategy to bring a market-leading toolkit of solutions and resources to growing and disruptive food and beverage companies.”

The acquisition marks another step in FlavorSum’s growth strategy following its July 2025 acquisition by private equity firm Warburg Pincus from The Riverside Company. At the time, Briggs highlighted FlavorSum’s successful integration of four acquisitions over the previous five years and the expansion of its Michigan manufacturing footprint by 35,000 square feet. The company said the Warburg Pincus partnership would provide additional resources to accelerate growth while maintaining FlavorSum’s independent operating structure and leadership team.

With BFI now joining the platform, FlavorSum is broadening its beverage formulation and production support offerings, adding specialized beverage base technology to a portfolio designed to help food and beverage brands move products to market more quickly and efficiently.
