REACH Workshop

On October 18-19, the Fragrance Materials Association will hold a workshop on REACH (the Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) at the Glenpointe Marriott in Teaneck, NJ. The REACH legislation is expected to be finalized by the end of this year with implementation beginning in early 2007. The REACH proposal will replace the current system of about 40 existing European Community Directives and Regulations on chemicals with different rules for existing and new substances, by a single regulation with one consistent approach to controlling risks from substances. The workshop will cover a broad range of topics, such as: the requirements of the program, the potential for impacts on innovation, the possibility of disruptions in international trade, and the costs associated with compliance.

The workshop will begin at 9 am on October 18. During the morning session there will be a broad overview of REACH, covering background issues, the US trade perspective, the impact of the regulation on the flavor and fragrance industries and time lines for compliance. That afternoon, the specific tiers of chemicals covered by the legislation will be discussed. On October 19, attendees will be presented with extensive information about the options for moving forward, the role of the US companies, communication with customers and suppliers and the economic implications of the system.

The cost of the workshop is $495 for FMA and FEMA members and $695 for non-members. For more information, contact FMA; tel: 202-293-5800;
