Lavender

In summary, the prospect for lavender notes in perfumery is bright. Personally, I am convinced that we will see once again a more sophisticated application of them in all sectors of perfumery.

Whether the user industries will think it worth supporting the production of pure essential oils, this writer cannot tell. Where new sources are concerned it will involve taking up the limited output of the early years while the project grows. But if every user leaves this for someone else to do, it is not difficult to predict the degradation and disappearance of oils that are as good and plentiful today as true lavender was fifty years ago.

The Characteristics of Lavender Oils from Eastern Europe

Lavender oil (ex. Lavandula angustifolia Mill.) is produced commercially by a number of countries: France (the main supplier), Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine and Australia. The oils from each of these regions possess distinctive aroma characters, which range from the fine, flowery, fresh notes in the French oils to herbal, woody and camphoraceous with fatty notes in the Australian oils. Herein, it will be shown that these differences in aroma can be translated into a visual form (map) that assists comparisons with chemical analysis data.

Essential Oil of French Lavender— Its Composition and Its Adulteration

The composition of oil of French lavender is extremely complex. Of the approximately 150 constituents presently identified, most are only present in trace quantities. Progress in Essential Oils: Long Pepper Oil

The present article is a survey of literature evaluating the constituents of Piper longum L., or long pepper, fruit oil. In one case, early researchers found the oil was devoid of monoterpene compounds and rich in sesquiterpenes, with b-caryophyllene being the major hydrocarbon. Lawrence (1978) and others also examined the composition of P. longum, the findings from which are discussed here.
