Q1 2023 U.S. prestige beauty sales grew 16% year-over-year, totaling $6.6 billion, according to point-of-sale data from Circana (formerly IRI and The NPD Group). The mass beauty market generated $7.0 billion in the same period, representing growth of 10% versus the same period of 2022. Category-by-category Q1 growth trends are pictured in the graph at left.

“Following a stellar 2022, the beauty industry continues to bask in the glow of growing sales,” said Larissa Jensen, beauty industry advisor at Circana.

Growth drivers in the fragrance sector again included higher concentrations, including parfums (up 43%) and eau de parfums (up 14%).

Decoding the 2024-2025 Fragrance Boom: Prestige x Value

Luxury brands accounted for 12% of prestige fragrance sales and grew faster than the overall category, per Circana.

Net sales for the skin care segment in Q2 were $2,382 million, as compared to $3,159 million in the previous year.

The Estée Lauder Companies Q2 2023 Net Sales Decline 17%
