Tony Moore has announced the launch of two creative projects within the flavor and fragrance industry: FlavScents.com and What's That Smell? Perfumer & Flavorist+ connected with Moore to learn more about these two ventures and discover how the F&F community can get involved.
FlavScents.com
Moore shares, "Along with my systems specialist partner, Paul Smiley, I’ve launched a free-to-use collaborative database of flavor and fragrance materials information at FlavScents.com. This compendium is inspired by The Good Scents Company and an homage to the legacy of its creator, Bill Luebke. It currently contains searchable information for over 30,000 materials and includes features where users can contribute and collaborate. There is also a material supplier subscription that is intended to generate income to keep the site current, growing and sustainable."
What’s That Smell?
Moore adds, "Along with my artist and storytelling partner, Mike Helm, and with the support of P&F, we’ve launched a video series on the YouTube Channel @WhatsThatSmellLabs that aims to explore the smells that surround us and the chemistry that causes them. We’ve posted the first episode, 'A Gin Joint,' which explores traditional and modern gin, the botanicals, florals and citrus that are used to make them, and their aroma chemistries. We’re working on our next episode called 'An Aromatic Democracy' where we discuss the smells of a traditional American July 4th celebration and capture and analyze the aromatic chemistry of fireworks and hot dogs. For our third episode, I grew 4 types of limes in my research garden and flavor chemistry lab; Key, Persian, Calamansi, and Thai limes, and we explored the aroma of these limes 'From Flower To Fruit.' I analyze the aroma chemistry of the lime flowers as they bloom, and of the peel zest and pressed juice when they ripened. I’ll be preparing proper research papers on the studies that support these videos."
