VIDEO: 150 Different Compounds Create the Smell Of Bacon

The American Chemical Society and the blog Compound Interest have put together a video to show that 150 chemicals help to create cooked bacon’s tasty smell (View the video at the bottom of this page).

"Hydrocarbons are just hydrogen and carbon atoms, chained together in thousands of different ways. Some of those chains just happen to produce a pleasant odor,” the video states. "They [aldehydes] still have carbon, but they bond with oxygen as well as hydrogen, and some produce a lovely smell."
