When Perfumer & Flavorist+ (P&F+) asked me to write a "Perfumer Notes" column on a specific ingredient, I decided to choose one of my favorite natural ingredients—neroli oil. Neroli, to me, brings happiness with its fresh, comfortable and clean notes. I have always loved neroli and I have used it everywhere in my creations. Neroli makes me feel good; I love to play with it in all types of formulations and various applications.

Thanks to the Botanicals by Sozio division, which sourced a precious, beautiful, high-quality, 100% pure and natural neroli essential oil, this ingredient is now at our disposal in our perfumery palette. Additionally, the essential oil is sustainably and ethically sourced by a direct to producer approach, which allows us to create in a more mindful and conscious manner.
P&F+: What comes to mind when first experiencing the material?
Aurélie Marel [AM]: Neroli essential oil is my madeleine de Proust that reminds me of the Jean Marie Farina cologne that my grandmother used to wear. She also used orange blossom water in her vanilla rice milk recipe.
Neroli brings me back to my travels in Grenada, Spain, the beautiful gardens of the Alhambra and the good memories of sunlit strolls on the Côte d'Azur during the blooming season of the orange bitter tree.
