Flavor manufacturer T. Hasegawa USA announced the launch of PLANTREACT, a new flavor technology designed to replicate the savory taste of animal proteins in plant-based foods. This proprietary technology addresses consumer demand for better tasting plant-based proteins.

“Interest in plant-based diets is greater than ever, but the flavor profile of plant-based proteins has been a barrier for many consumers in the past,” said director of flavor creation Mary Maier. “We’re excited to offer a solution to this problem and change consumer perceptions of plant-based proteins with a natural technology that delivers a more satisfying and authentic taste experience.”

PLANTREACT launches include formulations for beef, chicken and pork flavors. Further, the. technology has be applied for milk flavors in alternative dairy products. These flavors are natural, meet clean label guidelines, and are heat stable.

The PLANTREACT technology was developed over a six-month period as a part of T. Hasegawa’s “Bridge to Tokyo” program, which combines the expertise of the company’s Japanese headquarters and American subsidiary
