Specialty materials company announced the release of its Global Skin Care Report, which examines how sustainability, performance and formulation demands are shaping product development in skin care. According to the report, 85% of formulators surveyed say sustainability is important but only 52% are satisfied with their current options.

The report includes results from surveys with both formulators and consumers across 11 countries.

The results showed that 45% of consumers surveyed reported difficulty finding products that meet all of their needs. Further, less than 50% of global consumers remain loyal to a single brand, signalling a willingness to switch when expectations aren’t met.

On the formulation side, 75% of formulators agreed that  customer and retailer expectations push them to prefer sustainable ingredients, and 73% agreed that internal company sustainability targets influence what ingredients they use. Nearly half (42%) of the formulators surveyed expect biodegradability to be common in their region within the next three to five years.
