This invention relates to an insect repellent with reduced odor characteristics based on the insect repellent picaridin [2-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-piperidine carboxylic acid 1-methylpropyl ester] in combination with the odor-reducer zinc ricinoleate. Typically, the two compounds would be applied in solution or suspension form, although other forms may be used.
According to the inventors, the presence of the odor-reducer does not reduce the apparent efficacy of the picaridin but it reduces the odor of the picaridin itself.
