The Art and Olfaction Awards (A+OA) are back with their 8th edition, honoring artisan and independent perfumery, and experimental work with scent.

Submissions for the 8th annual Art and Olfaction Awards is open between November 1 and December 11, 2021.
Submissions will be accepted from independent and artisan perfume brands, as well as artists and experimental practitioners with scent. Perfumes will be accepted from independent companies that have been or will be released to the market in the period between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2021.
The awards will take place at the World Perfumery Congress in Miami.
Winners will be announced in four juried categories: the Art and Olfaction Artisan Award, the Art and Olfaction Independent Award, the Sadakichi Award for Experimental Work with Scent and the Aftel Award for Handmade Perfume.
Additionally, winners of the Contribution to Scent Culture Award (honoring a person or entity that has made contributions to public awareness of artisan, independent and experimental practices with scent) will be announced, as well as the Piesse Award, which will be given to an outstanding person showing proof of exceptional vision with regards to how scent is used, developed or imagined.
The finalists will be announced at a special press event in March 2022 at Esxence, the pre-eminent fair for independent and artistic perfumery. There will be only five finalists in the Art and Olfaction Artisan Award, as well as in the Art and Olfaction Independent Award and in the Sadakichi Award for Experimental Work with Scent.
All submissions in the Art and Olfaction Artisan Award, the Art and Olfaction Independent Award and the Aftel Award for Handmade Perfume will be judged blindly, by an international cohort of judges who have themselves shown exceptional dedication to the field of perfumery. New judges include academic and gallerist Andreas Keller, perfume expert Chi Wai Tang, Writer and evaluator Ida Meister and independent perfumers John Biebel, Lakenda Wallace, Rubia Chaudri, Julienne Lee and Maxwell Williams (with more to be announced).
The new judges will serve alongside returning judges, including evaluator Anahita Mekanik, perfumers Sarah Horowitz-Thran, Ashley Eden Kessler, Dana El Masri, Daniel Krasofski, Yosh Han and Kaya Sorhaindo, perfume critic Mark Behnke, academic Simon Niedenthal, curator Darin Klein, with more to be announced.
