SFC Fall Meeting

On September 20, the Society of Flavor Chemists will hold a meeting at the Wyndham O’Hare, Rosemont, IL. As a part of this meeting, the Chemical Sources Association will hold a business and technical meeting from 2:00–3:30 PM. At 3:30 PM, William Hallihan (manager of the Intellectual Property Practice Group, Amin Hallihan, LLC) will talk about patent considerations in the food industry. Alan Hirsch (neurologic director, Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation) will follow at 4:15 PM with a discussion on “Flavors in Your Life.” Hirsch will explore the conscious and unconscious effects odors and flavors have on our lives, including weight loss, sexual arousal, gambling behaviors, etc.

Following an SFC membership business meeting from 5:00–5:30 PM, a cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres will be held from 5:30–6:00 PM. Dinner will be held at 6:30, with Marco Marsan (founder of Marco Polo Explorers) presenting “COMBAT Insight Development Strategy.” Marsan will explain how his problem-solving discipline (COMBAT) can be used to make sound, successful business decisions. As he explains, COMBAT is an acronym for “what the Consumer provides you, what Operations feels are competencies and liabilities, what the Marketplace reveals as far as competitive gaps or category busting ideas, what your Brand stands for in your mind and what it stands for in the mind of the consumer, your preexisting Assumptions and ultimately the Tactics to employ.”
