Essential Oil of Heterotheca Latifolia
Although there are several papers in the bibliography about this genus, no one has studied or described its aroma. We have identified in a previous work the main constituents of the essential oil from its aereal parts and showed an olfactive evaluation that was further confirmed by the assistance of the Symposium of Natural Aromatic and Medicinal Resources, held in Necochea, Argentina in 1984. The confirmation of those compounds and identification of some others present in minor quantities are given in this paper. Furthermore, we present a critical analysis of the potential economic value of this essence for the fragrance industry.

Ingredients
Fragrances Through Hydrochlorination of Terpenes
Among the reactions that have enriched terpene chemlstry, perhaps the simplest and one of the outstanding is hydrochlorination. This reaction has been used for structural elucidation, for derivatization to identify and/or purify terpenes and for synthesizing perfumery chemicals. How the application of hydrochlorination on terpenes has unearthed the treasure caves of fragrances is a vibrant chapter worthy of portrayal.
Ingredients
Aroma Chemicals from Alkyl Halides
The substitution of akyl halides hy zinc salts thus constitutes a very useful synthetic reaction for the preparation of alcohols, ethers, esters, thioethers and thiolesters both under solvolytic and nonsolvolytic conditions. Using this versatile reaction, a large number of allyl, benzyl and tertiary alkyl derivatives, which are widely used in the perfumery and flavour industry, can be obtained. Among these, mention must be made of a-terpinyl, l-menthanyl, myrcenyl, dihydromyrcenyl, benzyl, styrallyl 3,3-dimethyhdlyl and carvyl esters, ethers and alcohols. The inexpensive reagents, convenient reaction conditions and suitability for large-scale operation are attractive features of the method.
