The Society of Flavor Chemists (SFC) has announced its efforts to launch the Legacy Project in collaboration with the Science History Institute in Philadelphia to document the history of the flavor industry and reveal its important impact on society.
Through this project the SFC will:
• Digitize books and documents associated with flavor history and the flavor industry.
• Record oral history interviews of flavor chemists.
• Arrange and rehouse the papers of society members who have donated their archives.
• Create engaging educational content through the institute’s museum.
Background of the SFC x Science History Institute Partnership
The partnership with the Science History Institute began in 2017 when the SFC Library Committee, under the guidance of Alfred Goossens, recommended that the Society’s library be donated to the Chemical Heritage Foundation (since renamed the Science History Institute.) The SFC began organizing a library in 1999, but by 2017 had outgrown the physical space at the Monell Chemical Senses Center. Integrating the SFC library into the Institute’s Othmer Library collection, it will represent the history of flavor in one of the nation’s premier history of science libraries.
The SFC is looking for donations from the flavor community to launch the Legacy Project, with various sponsorship levels available. To learn more about the sponsorship levels, you can visit the society's website or scan the QR code below.
