2021 Sales: $11.7 billiona
Growth, acquisitions and collaborations have led to a fruitful year for IFF. The company’s focus to diversify its portfolios led to the acquisition of Health Wright Products, LLC, a player in formulation and capsule manufacturing for the dietary supplement industry.
In August 2021, IFF announced an agreement to sell its Microbial Control business unit to Lanxess. The transaction was valued at $1.3 billion, utilizing the cash proceeds net of taxes and expenses to be primarily used to reduce outstanding debt. The announcement was part of a strategic portfolio review and was guided by the company’s commitment to enhance long-term shareholder value.
In terms of spreading its reach, IFF debuted its newly extended flavors manufacturing facility in Karawang, Indonesia. Nicolas Mirzayantz, president of IFF’s Nourish Division will speak to what the $87 million investment means for the company’s future.
Another noteworthy transition was the retirement of IFF’s chairman and CEO, Andreas Fibig in early 2022. Frank Clyburn, who readers will hear from later in this feature, succeeds Fibig in those roles.
For this year’s Leaders & Newsmakers issue, IFF has tapped its segment leaders to discuss strides in their respective sectors as well as potential opportunities that lie ahead.

Frank Clyburn
CEO, IFF
Frank Clyburn [FC]: I am thrilled to have joined as IFF’s new CEO to usher in our next chapter. IFF’s purpose and vision are very closely linked with accelerating global trends of nutrition, wellness and sustainability. Working with IFF’s world-class talent, offerings and innovation platform, I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished this year and am excited to bring my approach of executional excellence to capitalize on IFF’s bright future.
IFF is a significantly larger, stronger and more diversified organization than when we began our transformation several years ago. The enhanced scale gained through our combination with DuPont Nutrition & Biosciences makes us an even more powerful innovator and trusted partner to our customers. IFF has become a global leader in high-value ingredients and solutions for the global food, beverage, home and personal care, and health and wellness markets. And since we’ve expanded our team, capabilities and portfolio, we’ve redefined our purpose, “Applying science and creativity for a better world.” Today’s IFF is, “Where science and creativity meet.”
Our work spans four divisions:
• Scent–led by Christophe de Villeplee, president
• Nourish–led by Nicolas Mirzayantz, president
• Health & Biosciences–led by Simon Herriott, president
• Pharma Solutions–led by Angela Strzelecki, president
And in this time of transformation, across our businesses, we’ve continued to deliver for our customers. I’m proud of our team and our partners, who allow us to create unique solutions that redefine what is possible.
