Tru Fragrance Celebrates Chicago Garden Project with New Scent

Tru Fragrance, a Chicago-based boutique fragrance development company, announced the release of Tru Blooms Fountain of Roses. This new limited edition fragrance is derived from the second harvest of Tru Blooms, Chicago’s one-of-a-kind fragrance initiative that beautifies the city’s public green spaces, supports local nonprofits, and creates and sustains jobs for residents.

Created in partnership with Stephanie Hakes, an esteemed perfumer from global fragrance house Ungerer & Company, Tru Blooms Fountain of Roses is a transparent aquatic floral captured from the essential oils and essence of rose geranium, patchouli, rose and lavender, sparking a warm and glamorous fragrance.

The Tru Blooms initiative, now in its second year, marks the first time a city has come together to fulfill a mission of sustainability, urban beautification and economic development through the planting and cultivating of flowers and gardens specifically for use in a fine fragrance. The initiative is a joint effort by Tru Fragrance, the city of Chicago and several city and community organizations, including Chicago Park District, Chicago Botanic Garden, Growing Power, Growing Home, NeighborSpace and newcomer Whitney Young High School, who are all committed to making an impact through sustainability.

“Following the success of the first Tru Blooms Chicago perfume, which was among the most sought-after fragrances in the city last year, we approached 2013 wanting to give the community a totally new and different fragrance they could again be proud of,” said Monte Henige, CEO and owner of Tru Fragrance. “The result of the 2013 initiative is starkly different to last year, yet still embodies everything we love about Chicago. Tru Blooms Fountain of Roses is a warm yet sophisticated fragrance that is desirable, elegant and very wearable.”

The new fragrance features top notes of sparkling orange and kumquat zest that blend seamlessly with the heart of orange blossom, lavender, lily of the valley and pink rose petals, evoking an image of a fountain overgrown with roses. Tru Blooms Fountain of Roses’ base notes of blonde woods, patchouli and warm musk call to mind the scent of sun kissed skin. All notes were crafted to work together and complement each other harmoniously on the wearer’s skin, no matter the occasion.

Twenty-seven gardens have been cultivated for Tru Blooms in 2013, and the initiative provided specialized job training for more than 150 workers and created approximately 60 jobs. Gardens included the replanting of spaces in Grant Park, as well as new green spaces at Whitney Young High School, Cantigny Park, Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and Uncommon Ground. Local volunteers and farmers employed by nonprofit organizations cultivated the gardens throughout the year.

Tru Fragrance designed, created and produced the limited edition Tru Blooms Second Harvest fragrance. Available in two sizes—50 ml ($42) and 15 ml ($20)—Tru Blooms Second Harvest will be sold at select retail locations beginning October 21, 2013. Online orders at will begin on October 14, 2013.
