Forty persons from the United States and Japan took a most interesting and educational tour of Egypt in October of 1980; a tour composed in almost equal parts of Egyptian culture and history and of information on the rapidly expanding essential oil industry in Egypt. The tour was arranged by Camille, Albert & Laloue.

This work was undertaken for the purpose of exploring new sources of citrus oils which may be useful as food flavors and in the fragrance industry. The study deals with the analysis of leaf essential oils of three different varieties of C. reticulata Blanco which flourish in Egypt.

The present article is a survey of literature evaluating the constituents of Piper longum L., or long pepper, fruit oil. In one case, early researchers found the oil was devoid of monoterpene compounds and rich in sesquiterpenes, with b-caryophyllene being the major hydrocarbon. Lawrence (1978) and others also examined the composition of P. longum, the findings from which are discussed here.
