With tired eyes, I’m penning this Editor’s Note on the backend of World Perfumery Congress (WPC) 2024. What an incredible experience to assemble the fragrance industry in Geneva, Switzerland! I spent a majority of the event introducing—and at times moderating—conference sessions covering the impact of regulatory updates, artificial intelligence, green chemistry and social media on the perfumer’s day-to-day. We hosted over 1,600 attendees at the Palexpo to discover the latest ingredients, technologies and services on the expo hall floor. After the conference sessions wrapped each day, I snuck upstairs for bubbles with new and familiar faces from around the globe.
The American Society of Perfumers honored John Pascale with the Lifetime Achievement Award on the expo hall floor. During his speech, he said, "Perfumers never die, they just evaporate." The lasting impression and legacy of the creators of this industry is inspiring, and I am so thankful to be part of it.
Thank you to all of the attendees, speakers and exhibitors who traveled near and far to celebrate WPC with The American Society of Perfumers and Allured Business Media! Thank you again to our sponsors who continue to support the education and growth of our industry. Currently, we are still searching for the location for WPC 2026, so stay tuned.
I also wanted to acknowledge the unfortunate last-minute closing reception venue. We offer our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience. We wanted to thank everyone who came out to celebrate the closing and made a less-than-ideal pivot into a memorable evening.
While I am so thrilled (and a little exhausted) to have shared a successful four days with the fragrance community, I cannot wait to reunite with the flavor professionals in just two short months for Flavorcon 2024 in Atlantic City, New Jersey (more on page XX). Haven’t registered? Not a problem! You can still take advantage of the best rates by visiting www.flavorcon.com and securing your seat at the table. Our opening cocktail reception will be held poolside, but no need for swimwear, business cards will suffice. Don’t forget — we will be hosting another live organoleptic panel tasting pre-Con on October 7. Registration includes lunch as well as two sessions led by John Wright, Cyndie Lipka and Michael Morrison. Prepare your palate!
