IFRA UK is hosting its annual Fragrance Forum to be held October 19, 2023 at The Royal Institution.

Barry C. Smith, director of the Institute of Philosophy at the Centre for the Study of the Senses, will chair the event.

The forum will feature two keynote lectures with Maria Larsson, professor chair in perception and psychophysics at Stockholm University’s Department of Psychology and Thomas Hummel, M.D. Technische Universität Dresden, Germany.

Hummel will explain to attendees how the olfactory function works, present ways to assess odor memory and share what happens to these memories when we lose our sense of smell.

Larsson’s talk will discuss odor memory and its impact as an emotional time machine, covering emotional resonance, the importance of well-being and how odor associations and memories are used in marketing and branding.

An interactive creative session will follow these lectures where the audience will hear from four early career perfumers who have created a fragrance from a personal memory.

To end the forum, an open discussion and panel discussion will take place.

The Royal Institution is located at 21 Albemarle Street, London, W1S 4BS.
