EU Removes Certain Entries from List of Approved Flavoring Sustances

A number of flavorings have been removed from the European Union's list of approved flavoring substances due to low volume and/or a need for additional data.

A New Method of Separation of Citral from Lemongrass Oil

Although many methods are known for the separation of citral from lemongrass (Cymbopogen flexuosus) oil, like fractional distillation, adduct formation and regeneration, the purity and the yield of citral as separated are not satisfactory. A new method for separation of citral in pure form and in near quantitative yield uses the column chromatographic technique. This method may also be adapted for large scale separation of citral and hence can be of commercial importance.

Cox PLLC) spoke about the dilemma smaller flavor companies face as they struggle to build the kind of regulatory departments larger organizations have. Cox noted that the need for regulatory capabilities will only grow as customers’ needs expand—organic and natural claims (this is particularly due to a lack of universal standards) and pharmaceutical excipient residue rules.
