Aromatherapy: Do Essential Oils Have Therapeutic Properties?
A pleasant odor has always been, and still is, an important factor for people to feel good, and feeling well is synonymous with good health. Therefore, we can conclude that all substances which are able to create a certain amount of well-being and well-feeling possess therapeutic properties and, therefore, can be called therapeutic agents.

Unsaturated Components in the Essential Oil of Anthemis nobilis L. (Roman Chamomile)
French authors recently presented their analytical findings on the oil using the negative chemical ionization technique in mass spectrometry. They tracked the GLC profile of the complete oil with the mass numbers of the quasi-molecular ions [M-H]- in combination with the carboxylate anion RCOO-. Thereby inter alia the presence of five esters derived from methacrylic or crotonic acid was reported, however, without giving definite structural assignments for the individual components. The same holds for eight esters of the angelate or tiglate type, respectively. We have worked in a more traditional way and wish here to present the results concerning some of these methacrylates, crotonates, angelates and tiglates. All esters mentioned by us have proved by comparison with authentic synthetically prepared samples.

Some Aspects Of Qualitative Structure-Odor Relationships
Qualitative odor-structure relationships have been applied for more than a century. The results of these studies are mostly the consequence (outcome) of the application of common sense gathered by experience. Two main features characterize the molecular structures of odorant molecules: “electronicity” (electronic charge distribution over a molecule) and “stereocity” (volume, shape and profile of a molecule).

Molecular Surface Analysis: A Computer Assisted Search for Structure-Odor Relationship
The purpose of this article is threefold. First, we shall explain how we have adapted the small computer to carry out comparisons between the surface regions of molecules and to identify regions of significant spatial similarity. Secondly, we shall demonstrate how this method was applied to the development of new synthetic cedarwood tobacco flavorants.

Recent Developments in the Study of Perception: Taste and Smell
In this paper we have tried to give an overview of the present knowledge about olfactory and gustatory perception from a viewpoint that leaves room for practical application of the knowledge. Smells and tastes are often perceived unconsciously by consumers. They evoke personal memories and moods, but can hardly be described adequately, unless specific training is given.
