This year’s Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association (FEMA) Fall Symposium comes on the eve of the organization’s 100th anniversary (2009) and marks the 50th anniversary of the 1958 Food Additives Amendment to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act “which established the GRAS concept and led to the creation of the FEMA GRAS."
John Hallagan and Richard Hall will discuss the first 50 years of FEMA GRAS; Tim Adams and Robert Smith will provide an over view of the FEMA Expert Panel’; Sean Taylor and Christie Gavin will cover FEMA GRAS’ key activities; and Dennis Keefe of the US Food and Drug Administration will discuss the future of GRAS and global flavor regulation. In addition, Peter Schieberle will be presented with the organization’s Excellence in Flavor Science Award and will speak on “Recent Developments in Acrylamide Analysis and Formation.”
