Differences in Chemical and Sensory Properties of Orange Flower and Rose Oils Obtained from Hydrodistillation and from Supercritical C02 Extraction

In this article we will identify some characteristic and essential constituents of bitter orange flowers (Citrus aurantium L., ssp. armzra Engl.) from Spain, Tunisia and Morocco, and roses (Rosa damascena Mill.) from Bulgaria and Turkey, and we will discuss how the consitutents differ depending on whether the oils were isolated by hydrodistillation or by supercritical fluid carbon dioxide extraction of the concretes. hydrodistillatio norbysupercriticai fluid carbon dioxide extraction of the concretes.

Progress in Essential Oils: Long Pepper Oil

The present article is a survey of literature evaluating the constituents of Piper longum L., or long pepper, fruit oil. In one case, early researchers found the oil was devoid of monoterpene compounds and rich in sesquiterpenes, with b-caryophyllene being the major hydrocarbon. Lawrence (1978) and others also examined the composition of P. longum, the findings from which are discussed here.

Where new sources are concerned it will involve taking up the limited output of the early years while the project grows. But if every user leaves this for someone else to do, it is not difficult to predict the degradation and disappearance of oils that are as good and plentiful today as true lavender was fifty years ago.

Essential Oil of Heterotheca Latifolia

Although there are several papers in the bibliography about this genus, no one has studied or described its aroma. We have identified in a previous work the main constituents of the essential oil from its aereal parts and showed an olfactive evaluation that was further confirmed by the assistance of the Symposium of Natural Aromatic and Medicinal Resources, held in Necochea, Argentina in 1984. The confirmation of those compounds and identification of some others present in minor quantities are given in this paper. Furthermore, we present a critical analysis of the potential economic value of this essence for the fragrance industry.
