Lavender, Lavandin and other French Oils
My purpose will be to present an overview of the main essential oils produced in France, trying to see, for each, specific points.

A Preliminary Analysis of Some Lavender and Lavandin Cultivars
We have examined the essentiaI oils of twelve lavender and five lavandin clones from the nursery trade in the United States and Great Britain to assess them for future agronomic utilization. In order to increase the confidence of extrapolating from a laboratory situation to commercial field conditions, a plant of ‘Grosso,’ a leading cultivar of lavandin was also included in this study.

Chemical and Sensory Evaluation of Lavandula Oils
In this article the chemical composition of lavandula oils from various parts of the world will be discussed. The odor qualities of the oils and the olfactive properties of some characteristic compounds will be mentioned.

Natural Products and Their Sources
Our subject is the future supplies of natural raw materials for the essential oil industry. We might divide these raw materials roughly into three groups: 1) those that serve as raw materials in the production of isolates, competing head-on with synthetics and including citronella, lemongrass, menthol, and clove leaf; 2) those that can be replaced by synthetic oils, such as anis, rose, fir needle, geranium, citrus oils, sandalwood mint oils, and floral extractives; 3) those that are not threatened by replacements–at least for the present– including cedarwood, eucalyptus, guaiaewood, lavandin, ocotea, petitgrain, patchouli, vetivert, and ylang.

Essential Oils: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
During the last 30 years, we have witnessed many changes within the essential oils industry. Essential oil production and processing are an important part of the global flavor and fragrance industry. Along with aroma chemicals, they constitute the creative building blocks for virtually all flavors and fragrances.

Characterization of Super, and Grosso Iavandin Abrialis, by GC-MS
Comparative studies of these oils described in the literature usually stress differences in some physicochemical constants and concentrations of a few major componenets, especially linalool, linalyl acetate, camphor and 1,8-cineole. It was believed that for Customs purposes a more detailed characterization was required, and concentration ranges were established for components present to the extent of more than 0.5% in these oils. Glass capillary gas chromatography was found to be a suitable method of analysis, and mass spectrometry of the separated components aided in their identification.
Ingredients
Ocimene
A versatile floral ingredient, ocimene can be used in a various artificial essential oils, fragrances and household product fragrances.

Quality factors in Iavandin
Certainly the physiochemical limits established in our laboratories for those lavandin samples correlating to high olfactory ratings are not absolute, and examination of future crops may necessitate some modifications, Nevertheless, a study of the accompanying tables yields several interesting observations.
