Unilever has signed an agreement to acquire Romanian ice cream producer Betty Ice, the company announced. The terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Betty Ice and Unilever’s South Central Europe Ice Cream division will operate as a standalone unit, led by general manager Vasile Armenean. Armenean founded Betty Ice in 1994.

With a total turnover of €30 million, Betty Ice is Romania’s main local ice cream producer. The company operates more than 180 ice cream kiosks, open in the summer, and owns a factory in Suceava, Romania.

“We are delighted that Betty Ice will join the Unilever family,” said James Simmons, managing director of Unilever South Central Europe. “Betty Ice is a wonderful business, much loved by Romanians. I am also very pleased that Vasile Armenean has decided to join our company. He is an outstanding entrepreneur and he will play an instrumental role in creating a bright future for this new business.”
