dsm-firmenich announced the inauguration of two production plants in Castets, southwestern France, for the production of perfumery ingredients.

The first facility is a multipurpose unit for the production of pine-based ingredients, and is designed to secure the supply of a variety of finished products and intermediates for the perfume markets. It is designed to increase the production capacity for renewable ingredients on the site.

The second brand-new plant is dedicated to the production of the biodegradable musk Habanolide (registered trademark of dsm-firmenich). The Habanolide facility is said to significantly boost the production capacity of this perfume ingredient, which is ranked among dsm-firmenich’s best-selling ingredients.

Both facilities are said to be equipped with the most advanced technologies in the industry to ensure the highest safety standards, operational stability, energy efficiency and quality. More than 25 local companies took part in the construction of the two sites.

These two additional plants also make a significant contribution to our Sustainability ambitions by lowering the carbon footprint of our logistics operations in the region, while helping our customers deliver on their own sustainability goals by reducing their scope 3 emissions.”

“Habanolide is one of our customers’ favorite ingredients, because not only is it powerful and high performing, it is also biodegradable, which are key differentiating factors for the perfumery market,” adds Roquette. “With this plant, that comes in addition to our production line in New Jersey, US, we are reinforcing our global position as the House of Musk.”

The bio-sourced ingredients plant received a €2.8 million subsidy from the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region to boost companies’ industrial performance and energy efficiency. The Habanolide expansion project is said to have benefited from a €1.0 million grant, as part of the national recovery plan implemented by the French government and the Nouvelle Aquitaine region, to accelerate industrial investments in France.
