Pay range: $80,000-$115,000

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Associate Flavor Chemist II demonstrates mastery of savory flavor compounding and is able to create savory flavors. 

·       Has reaction flavor experience and is able to operate lab reactor equipment.

·        Has a good working knowledge of flavor materials, and is able to describe the characteristics of common chemicals. 

·        Has an understanding of basic organic chemistry and flavor analysis,

·        Understands organizations and regulatory agencies pertaining to flavors. Has good knowledgeable of savory flavor regulatory issues.

·        Compounds flavors, selects flavors for projects and executes simple flavor creation for projects using good project management skills. 

·        Provides overall research and development support in a team-oriented, highly motivated, manner.

·         Intentionally further develops professionally towards promotion to Flavor Chemist.

·        Works collaboratively with sales, regulatory, and operations teams.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/MAJOR  JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accurately compounds flavors using existing formulas or new formulations. 
  • Assists Senior Flavor Chemists with internal products and customer-related projects and activities. 

                - Assists in reformulating flavors,

                - Assists with compounding flavors, gathering materials, setting up flavors for evaluation, shelf life testing, commercialization, etc.

  • Performs flavor creations and makes flavor adjustments. 

                - Can execute simple flavor matches with a high degree of accuracy, and customer acceptance.

                - Selects flavors for projects.  Completes projects in a timely manner and communicates delays to the appropriate personnel. 

  • Continues to grow as a Flavor Chemist. 

                - Demonstrates a keen interest in flavor creation. 

                - Completes flavor training program. 

                - Develops strong project management skills. 

                - Takes the initiative to study flavor raw materials, learn from vendors, read relevant publications, ask questions of Senior Flavor Chemists, etc.

  • Performs other duties as necessary.  Examples of other duties include analytical testing, maintaining equipment, formula system entries, lab cleaning and organization, production formula and raw material maintenance, etc.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum five (5) years in flavor industry.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Food Science, Chemistry or related field of study.
  • Society of Flavor Chemists Apprentice status a plus

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, speak, write and understand English.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
